Chayote

The pear-shaped chayote has a smooth, green skin. The flesh is pale green and contains a tasty, edible seed. If you peel a chayote it can be eaten raw, and used as a salad ingredient, for example. It can also be cooked, fried, steamed and deep fried. The flavour of the chayote is reminiscent of cucumber.
